Illinois Congressman Sean Casten is mourning the loss of his 17-year-old daughter, Gwen, who died earlier this week.
Gwen (17), Congressman Casten’s adored daughter, died this morning, according to the congressman’s office on Twitter. “The Casten family has requested privacy at this difficult time, and we will be issuing no further comment during this time.
There has been no more information released about the tragedy, including her cause of death.
According to her Instagram page, Gwen graduated from Downers Grove North High School in May and plans to attend the University of Vermont in the autumn to study environmental science. Her high school’s Empowerment Club, which she founded and led, said that she “she was cherished by all” following the devastating news of her death.
The club posted on Instagram, “There are no words that can begin to describe the grief we are suffering.” “She was adored, and her lasting impact on our community will be felt for generations. Thank you, Gwen, for all you’ve done to influence our lives and instill love and positivity in them. You were undoubtedly a force to be reckoned with. You will be missed.”
Fellow Lawmakers have also expressed their support for the Casten family, including Illinois Lieutenant Governor Juliana Stratton, who tweeted, “Please accept my heartfelt apologies. Sending you love and light.”
Earlier this year, the late teenager, starred in a campaign video supporting her father’s bid for a third teem in Congress, where he serves as a Democrat representing Illinois 6th Congressional District. Gwen discussed turning 18 and how 2022 will be a “huge year” for her, “filled with a lot of milestones, such as voting for her for the first time.
